Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaning

Our first task is to identify the cause of your DPF becoming blocked. You will then be advised of the cost of repair, should you wish for us to proceed with the work. It is often the case that cleaning is not even required.

Mechanics

We at Central Garage Carcroft will reset any error codes using the same procedures that the main dealers use and perform an emergency regeneration to ensure that the complete DPF system is operating correctly so the problem won’t happen again.

To clean the DPF on most vehicles costs £265, including resetting the soot level calculation in the ECU if required. Any repair work needed before we at Central Garage Carcroft can clean the DPF will be advised once an initial diagnosis is performed.

Your DPF is cleaned using a specialist process we at Central Garage Carcroft have developed. It achieves similar results to the similar results to the normal regeneration process that cleans the DPF under normal driving conditions. When soot in the DPF reaches a certain level the ECU will not allow the DPF to regenerate due to the risk of fire. The cleaning method we at Central Garage Carcroft practice cleans even the most badly sooted DPFs returning the vehicle to its normal working condition.

We at Central Garage Carcroft can also offer advice and specialist products that can reduce soot build up, ask our staff for details.
DPF Cleaning is usually offered as a same-day service taking about 2 to 3 hours.

Diesel Intake Cleaning
You may require our Diesel Intake Cleaning service if you are experiencing any of the following:
  • Poor Fuel Economy
  • Rough Idle
  • Engine Management Light ON
  • REDUCTION OR LOSS OF POWER
  • Stalling
  • Restricted Intake System
  • Smoking Exhaust
  • Smells from Exhaust
  • EGR Valve Dirty or Blocked
  • Difficult to Start
  • DPF Light On

These problems are often the result of the intake system has becoming restricted due to a buildup of carbon deposits.

Excess soot and carbon gums up piston rings and reduces compression in the process. The injector nozzles then become contaminated with a hard deposit that affects atomisation of the fuel, affecting emissions and often producing more soot.

Cleaning one or two components such as EGR or DPF may have a short-term effect but effectively this treats just the symptom, not the problem.

DPF REGENERATION

It is entirely normal for your DPF warning light to appear - it is simply advising you that the DPF needs to regenerate itself. Your owners manual will include instructions for how to do this. If you can't find these instructions, the following process will work for most cars.

  • 1
Ensure the Engine Management Light is NOT on.
  • 2
Ensure the vehicle has at least 1/4 of a tank of fuel
  • 3
Turn on as many electrical items as you can, air conditioning, lights, heated rear window, radio and so on.
  • 4
FIND A LONG STRETCH OF MOTORWAY OR DUAL CARRIAGEWAY WHERE YOU CAN DRIVE FOR UP TO 15 MILES WITHOUT STOPPING.
  • 5
Drive until normal temperature has been reached
  • 6
Once warm, drive in any gear that allows you to maintain 2,000 RPM. In an automatic you will need to select sport mode if possible and select the gear manually.
  • 7
Drive with the engine speed of 2,000 RPM until either the dpf light goes off or until you have covered at least 30 miles.

Following the above procedure should allow the car to self clean (or regenerate) the DPF on its own.
If the engine management or ABS light (or any other warning lights) are on stop the process and contact us.
